Autumn in a Summer’s Day

Photo by Mary Catherine Meirink 🍁 Saturday July 20, 2024

I feel rather silly posting this for the world to see, even if my corner in the world is a small place. That’s okay! I love my small place. I just do not often expose the interiors of my heart and soul that are bigger than my outward surroundings. Today, for some reason, I wanted to go for it! I wanted to say out loud,

Thank you, Lord, for giving me a touch of Autumn’s breath through a simple leaf, having drifted from the flourishing Summer tree.

Surprises like this make me happy! Holding Autumn’s colors in the middle of a hot Summer day adds delightful relief to my heart. Though only a fleeting moment, I was transported to memories of sweatshirts on a crisp cool day, leaves crunching beneath my feet, and bonfires with roasted hot dogs and s’mores.

I gazed up into the Summer tree that stood tall and flourishing with green leaves, the same tree that dropped its gift of one small Autumn leaf. I smiled back in thankfulness.

I suppose it’s true. Seasons come and seasons go. I might as well make the most of the moment I am in (humidity and all) while anticipating the pleasure of Autumn’s impending arrival.

I hope this post encourages you to look for moments God has prepared. May the simple things of life capture your attention with surprising joy!

Wishing you the best,

Mary
