Autumn’s Early Breath

It is early morning on this October 30th day of 2024 and not a glimpse of sunrise. Only a few lights shine in nearby homes. I sway on the cushioned swing with fresh coffee and Christmas pajamas announcing Winter’s joy. For now, however, my attention is drawn to Autumn’s early breath.

Summer mingles with Autumn’s chill.

Inhaling October. Exhaling September.

The two familiar friends join as though they have never been apart.

A strange warm moisture fills the cool breeze with a holy kiss.

They exchange kindnesses and wisdom of their season as

Summer’s lingering presence prepares to exit.

They will meet again

And somehow never be apart.
