Shepherds on the Night Shift

Today’s Advent reflection is dedicated to those who work the night shift; hospital staff, EMTs, fire fighters, police officers, military, janitors, waitresses, parents, those who labor in prayers……

May a song arise in your night watch with peace and joy to nourish your soul. Who knows? Maybe unseen angels might even sing along. 😉

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. – Luke 2:8

Christmas is incomplete without shepherds who worked the night shift. They tended their flock with watchful eyes while most slept comfortably at home. Few understood the sacrificial lifestyle of these shepherds yet, Heaven was aware. The darkness of night began to shine as angels appeared. These workers were among the first to hear about the good news of Jesus’ birth. They were among the first to see this newborn baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. They were among those honored by Heaven while living a simple, ordinary, faithful life.
