Half Time Show 2025

Here are my thoughts on the Super Bowl 2025 Half Time Show even though I know little about football and "modern" music. I prefer Louis Armstrong (What A Wonderful World), The Temptations (My Girl), James Taylor (Shower The People), Simon & Garfunkel (too many to name), and a few Christian artists.

I cheered for the Chiefs who were obviously not going to win. This was mildly disappointing because I'm not into football.

When it comes to music, I am more passionate about that.

Believe it or not, I wrote a few rap songs in the early 90's. Songs were packed with Scriptures and I could spit out the words almost as fast as Kendrick Lamar (I did a google search for his name.) I leaned towards the tv and waited to catch Lamar's words... until I couldn't. I gave up trying. He raps way faster than I ever could. It left me feeling let down because I had been looking forward to the show. I wanted to understand the words, but I couldn't.

SZA, the lady who sang with him, is from St. Louis. Go SZA! Her voice is fantastic!

The dancing left me confused about what they were trying to convey. Again, I wanted to understand but didn't. Fortunately, I was with people who gave their interpretation. They saw it as a call for unity. Red and blue represented gang rivalry between the crips and bloods. White represented generalized America. It was a plea to stop the hatred! It made sense when I understood this perspective. I could connect with that. And! Dancers did not rip their clothes off! That deserves recognition.

I have one suggestion that would have helped me. Half Time's Uncle Sam, played by Samuel Jackson, could have narrated the ideas above more clearly from the beginning. I would have at least been able to track the message even if people were not present to explain.

Now onto remarks on social media. A few were agast (my word) that the Half Time show shoved this performance in the face of our President. Well... I disagree. Come on, People. The night before, Kari Jobe and Sean Feucht sang. There were Jesus commercials, a theme to end hatred, an honorable rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, and applause for our President. How was the performance dishonoring? We do still have free speech. Right? (I can feel the tension rising. Oh, well...)

I am going to sign off for now. Remember, I'm cool with people disagreeing. I am Not okay with hate.

(Disclaimer: There are differing interpretations about what the 2025 Half Time Show endeavored to portray. These were my thoughts.)

See you later!
